How to remove a computer's power supply. Computer Hardware

M-TEC Solutions does not recommend that anyone attempt to repair a computer's power supply. However if you are a trained technician and you want to repair a power supply allow the power supply a minimum of 24 hours to dissipate all stored electrical charge.

  • Make sure the computer is off and unplugged.

  • Open the computer case.

  • Disconnect the motherboard's internal power cable, hard drive's internal power cable, floppy drive's internal power cable, CD/DVD/ROM internal power cable, and the on/off internal power switch.

  • Unscrew all screws that hold the power supply into the computer case.

  • Remove the power supply.

Note: The power supply is the only dangerous part of a computer. Take care when removing, repairing, and replacing a computer's power supply.
